Eat Curry Once a Week to Fight Dementia – It Really Works!

 

According to new research revealed at the Royal College of Psychiatrists Annual Meeting in Liverpool, curcumin, the component of the spice turmeric, can help prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease . . . even if eaten only once a week.

Curcumin is the yellow pigment that gives Turmeric the color. Turmeric is often used in foods such as curry and is considered to be one of the most beneficial spices when it comes to mental health.

According to the research, curcumin prevents the spread of amyloid protein plaque, the plaque that builds up in the brain and is implicated in dementia and Alzheimer’s. It also prevents the tangle of nerve fibers that also contribute to the disease.

Alzheimer ‘s disease is a form of dementia that is marked as it continues to progress, attacking the brain and robbing the individual of their memory as well as cognitive abilities. The plaque builds up on the brain of patients with this disease to the point where they can no longer remember relatives and lose their sense of reason. Alzheimer’s is a fatal illness, although someone can live with the condition for years.

In Eastern culture, turmeric was used as a form of medicine and now research supports the notion that it is very powerful when it comes to brain health. The new evidence indicates that while even a weekly meal of containing turmeric (such as curry) may be beneficial to the brain, those who eat such a meal two to three times a week have even lower incidents of dementia.

There are additional tests underway regarding the effects of this spice when it comes to preventing dementia and Alzheimer ‘s disease. According to research, Curcumin may be as effective at stopping the protein fragments as the drugs that are currently on the market to treat Alzheimer’s patients.

There is no cure for Alzheimer’s. The drugs that are on the market to treat this condition only slow the progression of the disease – not cure it. They are not without side effects, either. In fact, those who suffer from this condition will often forgo the drugs as the side effects can be very unpleasant and instead opt for cognitive therapy to try to prolong their lives.

The new study on curcumin shows promise because it is a natural product that is a powerful antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties – both vital in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Hopefully further research will shed even more light on curcumin’s powerful health benefits.
